Research: Conventions and Codes

My group is doing a Beats commercial. In these commercials, the audience usually sees celebrities advertising the product or an artist doing the ad while their music plays in the back. (People walking or dancing, music playing in playground, b-roll of product)

  • The sound throughout the commercial might be a popular sound and maybe diegetic sound might be muffled when headphone are put on.
  • These commercial may include an eye-level shot, high and low angles. With camera movements, zooms, tracking shots, and pans are also included. Beats commercials have wide shots, an establishing shot, a medium shot, a close up from the side and front of the face. In some cases, extreme close ups, two shots, and an aerial shot/ God's eye view my be used.
  • Costumes may come from that person's clothing line or matches their style and goes with the weather at that time. Makeup may also be included and some props. For example, if you were at the gym the props would be the gym equipment.
  • Commercials have editing techniques like inserts and split screens.
  • Convention and Codes in Beats commercials include what the headphone looks like, the Beats logo, what type of headphone it is (Beats Solo 3 Wireless), and some facts about it at the end of the commercial.
  • The commercial can sometimes include ethos - showing celebrities, artists, and well known people like Billie Eilish, Kim Kardashian, Roddy Ricch, LeBron James, Quen Blackwell, Selena Gomez. Showing that even the celebrities or influencers you know wear Beats too.
